Fashionably Old Fashioned for Retro Sketch #209

“Arrange whatever pieces come your way.”

~Virginia Woolf

This is the third time I have played along with the Retro Sketches Challenge but I never exactly knew what the word “retro” means.  I had to laugh when I was doing the daily crossword paper in the newspaper yesterday and came across the clue “fashionably old-fashioned” and figured out the answer was “retro”.  : )

I made this card for a friends 15 year old son who just redecorated his room.  He picked out the paint color (gray), picked out new curtains and bedspread, and used old vinyl records as some of the picture frames on a wall of photos.  He sent me a photo (they live out of state), so I thought it warranted a card in the mail!  What tickled me about this card is the mini silver soda pop top ( a retired Stampin’ Up! embellishment) down in the left hand corner.  The young man that will be receiving this card used to collect soda pop tops when he was a little boy, so hopefully he’ll catch that little piece of nostalgia! : )

Retro Sketch Card 002

This is the inside of the card, stamped with “the winner” (Basic Gray) and “1” (Hello Honey) from the Blue Ribbon Stamp Set.  The border (Lost Lagoon)  is stamped from the retired Daydream Medallions stamp set.  I caught an edge from the “1” stamp, so I covered the mistake with three stars from an In-Color Sequin Assortment.  It looks like they were supposed to be there!  : )

Retro Sketch Card 001

All the Designer Series Paper (DSP) on this 5″ x 5″ card is from last years “Moonlight” Paper Stack.  The (Lost Lagoon) blue ribbon and (Hello Honey) Best sentiment are from the retired Blue Ribbon stamp set.  The “simply wonderful” sentiment is from this years “Simply Wonderful” Sale-A-Bration stamp set.  The gray and white Bakers Twine is from an old Paper Pumpkin kit.  This was a fun card to make.  I love all the different pieces of these retro sketch designs!  Hope you can give it a try over at http://retrosketches.blogspot.com/

Have a great day,  Dawn
