A Fun Fold for Fable Friends

“Let us love the world to peace.”

~Eileen Elias Freeman

Hi, and Peace, Stamping Friends!  For those that practice the exercise of Lent, I hope it is going well!  So far so good here at the MacKay home, but after a week into it, there are some things we are definitely missing!  We are looking forward to Sunday, a “mini-Easter”, when we will allow ourselves the day off!  And speaking of Easter, I made some of these cute Easter cards this morning with the new “Fable Friends” stamp set and the Stitched Labels Framelits.  As for the “fun fold”, one of our stamping friends brought this fold to me at our last stamping class and I tried to recreate it.  Start with a 12″ x 4″ piece of cardstock.  Score at 2′, 4′, 8″ and 10″.  Then using the diagonal score plate, score and “x” from 2″ to 6″ and from 6″ to 8″.  Fold in the “x”‘s so that everything is under the diamond in the middle.  It sounds complicated but it really is very easy once you do it.  I practiced with computer paper first.  The yellow square in the middle is 2 3/4″ x 2 3/4”.

Yesterday my 88 year old neighbor came over and asked it I would make her a card for her grand-niece, who was recently diagnosed with colon cancer.  I looked up the color for that particular cancer, and it is dark blue.  I used “Blueberry Bushel” cardstock and the Ribbon of Courage stamp set and very quickly made up this card.  I had seen one similar to this on Brian King’s website awhile ago.  I didn’t have time to look it up, but I’m sure it had more layers than this! : )

While I had everything out, I decided to make a purple version for friend Becky, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at Christmas.  Thank you for your prayers for her!  On Monday she had a CT scan and the spots on her liver are gone, the spot on her peritoneum is gone and the mass on her pancreas has shrunk.  She asked that we keep praying!

This is a card that I cased from on the internet.  On the inside it says “Happy St. Patrick’s Day” and I wrote “May the luck of the Irish and the blessings of God be with you always!” in order to turn the “Good Luck” sentiment into a St. Patrick’s Day card.  : )  I used the “Amazing Life” stamp set and a die from the Wonderful Floral Romance Framelits Dies.

This picture is from last Saturday when we took Joseph (far left) and some of the Scouts snowshoeing at Sugarloaf Mountain.  We’re trying to enjoy all the snow before it leaves us. : )

Here’s view of Sugarloaf Mountain, a huge ski destination here in Maine, before we snowshoed into the woods.  It was a gorgeous day!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday!

Peace, Dawn

Happy Spring!

“Easter says you can put truth in a grave, but it won’t stay there.”

This cute Easter card is a CASE (copy and share everything) that I put my own spin on.  I’m posting it to say Happy Easter!  Happy Passover! and Happy Spring! to you.  May you enjoy all the new life sprouting outside and inside (interiorly).

This is such an exciting time of year for the Stampin’ Up! community…On Stage was just recently held and the new catalog and new in-colors were revealed.  Always fun to work with new colors!

See you again soon,

Stamping Fun at the High School

“One of the deep secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others.”

~Lewis Carroll

This morning Joseph and I went to his old high school to stamp with his old class.  Well, he didn’t get to stamp because he was my helper, but here he is stamping after we got home.  : )  We had so much fun with Tania, Michael, Dustin, Kylee and Kendra. (I’m forgetting somebody!)   They were awesome stampers and made cute spring cards for their family members!  We used the Honeycomb Happiness stamp set for the little chick, From the Garden stamp set for the sign and little bow, the Handpicked Framelits to cut out the sign and bow, the Circle of Spring stamp set for the “hello spring” sentiment and the Suite Sayings stamp set for the interior sentiment.  A good time was had by all and Joseph and I are very thankful to have such an fun opportunity to “do for others.”  🙂   See you next month, Mrs. Emerson and Ms. Lisa’s class!

Hello Spring!

Hello Spring 013

“How beautiful a day can be when kindness touches it.”

~George Elliston

Good Morning from Maine and welcome to all of our visitors from Brian King’s blog!  What a funny surprise when I checked his blog this morning to see the weekly Global Design Project and discovered my photograph.  Thanks, Brian!  If you don’t already play along with the Global Design Project, come join us…it’s a lot of fun and really helps the creative process.

We have stamping classes today and tomorrow at my house, and this is one of the cards we are making.  This is the Circle of Spring stamp set and the little pink line on the bottom is from the Sale-A-Bration Hello stamp set.  The inside sentiment is from Suite Sayings and says “Wishing you all the beautiful blessings of Easter.”

If you follow my blog, you have heard about my friend Barbara who has uterine cancer that has spread to colon, liver and lung.  She has four boys, the youngest in 8th grade, so we are really praying hard for her healing.  This morning she is in surgery for the colon cancer and we are praying that the doctors can remove every speck.  Thank you again to our faithful blog reader and friend, Nancy Farrell, who crocheted Barbara a prayer shawl which I posted earlier.  This is a card that I made this weekend for Barbara.  It’s made with the Tag It Stamp Set.

Hello Spring 009

This card started out being for a color challenge of Blushing Bride, Pool Party and Mint Macaron, but some dark green made its way in, so it’s back to the drawing board!  In the meantime, this card turned out to be a beauty!  I saw this idea of putting a sentiment in the middle of the wreath over on Brian King’s blog a couple of weeks ago.   This card says Happy Easter on the inside.  The wreath is from the Circle of Spring stamp set, the sentiment is from the Yippee-Skippee stamp set and the butterflies are cut from the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.  Have a great weekend!  Peace, Dawn

A Cheerful Critter for #GDP025

Global Design Project #025 Colour Challenge

“May we LIVE all the days of our life.”

~Jonathan Swift

The Global Design Project has a challenging color challenge for us this week over at

#GDP025 Take Two 004

The Daffodil Delight Cardstock is embossed with the Fancy Fan Embossing Folder.  I turned it sideways so it would resemble chicken wire! : )  The chick is stamped from the Cheerful Critters stamp set.  This is a color combination that I would never have considered without working with a challenge.  I love how challenges broaden our horizons!  Thanks, Global Design Project!

This is the first card I made, after my husband suggested that I add a stripe of yellow!

The elephant is from the Patterned Occasions stamp set and the inside sentiment is from the Oh My Goodies stamp set.

One Last Easter Card

This card was sent by my friend Pat in California.  She likes to recycle old cards into new ones. (Reminds me of the Paper Pals Blog hop this week!) Thank you Pat…it makes us think Spring even though we woke up in the north pole again this morning, and it’s still snowing!  It’s a “sugar snow”… the sap has been running since last Wednesday…we collected 23 gallons from the trees in our backyard yesterday!  Have a great weekend everyone…hope to see you at the Bangor Garden Show Saturday or Sunday!
