Dream Big for #GDP029

“Heal the past, live the present, dream the future.”

~Mary Engelbreit

What an unusual color combination to work with in the springtime!  The color challenge over at the Global Design Project at http://www.global-design-project.com this week is certainly different, but I combined it with another challenge, the Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge, and it was the perfect duo!

I had a “big dream” for today’s card, but I also had a big dream this Easter weekend.  When my father-in-law and mother-in-law were first married, they were living overseas.  My mother-in-law decided to make her new husbands favorite pie…lemon meringue.  If you’ve ever made this pie, you know that it is labor intensive, and that meringue is always tricky.  Well, she slaved over this pie in a tiny little kitchen, and was quite proud of her accomplishment.  When my father-in-law tasted it, he remarked, “it’s good, but it’s not like my mothers.  She made “birds” on the meringue.”  Needless to say, my mother-in-law has NEVER made him another lemon meringue pie.  So, as they were coming to my house for Easter dinner, I decided to attempt a lemon meringue pie.  I wanted the meringue to “bead”…my mom always told me that was the sign of a good meringue.  Guess what…the big dream came true…it beaded!!!  : )  Ha ha, we dream big, but we enjoy the small things.  : )  Hope you had a beautiful Easter or Spring weekend. xoxo

And here’s my card for the two challenges, made with the “Enjoy the Little Things” stamp set and the Arrows and the Boho Chic Embossing Folders:

The card is 5″ square, so I had to make an envelope to fit it!

Balloons for #GDP023

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

~Jeremiah 29:11

The Weekly Global Design Project has provided another great burst of inspiration with a theme challenge of “Balloons” this week.  I just happened to have a piece of “balloon paper” from the Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper that floated right into this project, along with other scraps I had laying around on my little table that is home to my paper cutter.   For a “scrappy” little thing, the card turned out okay!  The Mint Macaron base is textured with the Boho Chic Embossing Folder.  The sentiment comes from the Suite Sayings Stamp Set and is cut out with an Ovals Collection Framelit Die.  The thin black scrap is from the “It’s My Party” DSP Stack.  It’s glued onto a scrap of Pool Party Glitter Ribbon.  Inside the sentiment says “Hooray!  Hoorah!” and is going to go out to our middle sons girlfriend, who just got a new hospital job in her field of psychology.  We are so proud of her accomplishments!

“Don’t ever save anything for a special occasion.  Being alive is the special occasion!”

Good Morning and a special welcome to Cre8te Cards, a new blogging friend that has joined our Stamping Peace Family!

For this card, I wanted to try out the new Boho Chic Embossing Folder.  Now the Marina Mist cardstock definitely makes a statement!  I used the Work of Art stamp set to create this background for the leaf, stamped in Sahara Sand.  I wasn’t satisfied with that blank white area on the right, so I stamped the whiteness away before sending this card off with a charitable donation for a friends cause! (but didn’t get a photo).  I had seen this leaf layout on http://www.seanstamps.com/, his was purple and pink with a watercolor wash background and a different sentiment.  His base was purple, but not embossed.  I am really liking this embossing folder!  It’s hard to see in the photo, but the leaf and the sentiment are both heat embossed in gold.
