Birthday Banner and Stamparatus Tips

“The first fact about the celebration of birthdays is that it is a good way of affirming defiantly, and even flamboyantly, that it is a good thing to be alive.”

~G.K. Chesterton

Happy 23rd Birthday to our precious Joseph!!!  This is a banner I made for his birthday dinner tonight.  The theme of our decor this year is Buffalo Check! : )  I’m going a little crazy with the Buffalo Check Background Stamp but I just love it!  For Joseph’s party, I was able to find matching buffalo check paper goods, so it’s looking pretty festive around here!  He has four of his Scouting buddies coming over, and family, so it will be a fun celebration.  We even found buffalo check tote bags to give to his Scouting buds for their Scout Books and Scout gear.  Too much fun!

As I said yesterday, the stamparatus makes it really easy to make buffalo check banners.  Just a couple of tips:

#1:  If you have a cat, don’t leave the stamparatus open and unattended.  Cats think the rubber mat is a marvelous scratching pad!

#2:  It takes me three inkings to get the dark black that I like on colored cardstock.  Moral of the story:  use the stamparatus to get perfect alignment every time.  (With white cardstock I can get the right coverage in one try.)

For Joseph’s Birthday Card, I used a partial CASE of a Tina Rappe layout.  I was even able to find matching buffalo check wrapping paper.  Three cheers for The Party Store!  The card uses the So Santa stamp set, and I used the long “arrows” from the Warm Hearted Hostess Stamp Set to create a border on the inside of the card.

Have a great weekend!  Peace, xo Dawn

Advent Banner

“He (Jesus) says that the only chains that matter are fear and hate, because they chain our souls.  If we do not hate anyone and do not fear anyone, then we are free.”

~from The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare

This is a banner I am making for the first week of Advent, which starts this weekend.  The first week of Advent symbolizes “Hope”, the second week “Faith”, the third week “Joy” and the fourth week “Peace.”  My huge prayer for Advent is that we are all freed from any fear or any hate that we may hold in our hearts.

For the banner I used the Buffalo Check Background Stamp and the Stamparatus.  A winning combination that makes it quick and easy to make banners.  And how about the new Gorgeous Grape ink and cardstock…it’s one of my all time favorite Stampin’ Up! colors!  Now, just three more banners to make.  : )

Peace,  xo Dawn

Thanksgiving Recipe

“Give thanks for unknown blessings already on their way.”

~American Indian Saying

One of our Thanksgiving traditions the past several years is to make this warm drink in remembrance of colonial days.  I’m sending it along with some pies to our family celebration, which I’m unfortunately going to miss because Jonathan, our oldest son, is sick. : (   I just love the new Buffalo Check Background Stamp for dressing up Mason Jars! I used a stamp from the Christmas Pines set to make the “rosemary” on the tag. Here is the recipe:

1 cup water

1/2 cup sugar

4 fresh rosemary sprigs

6 cups cranberry pomegranate juice

1/2 cup red wine vinegar

4 whole allspice

  1.  For rosemary simple syrup:  In a small saucepan combine the water, sugar and rosemary.  Bring to boiling, stirring to dissolve sugar.  Remove from heat; let steep 1-2 hours.
  2. In a large saucepan stir together rosemary simple syrup, cranberry-pomegranate juice, vinegar and allspice.  Heat over medium heat until warm.  Using a slotted spoon, discard rosemary and allspice. If desired, garnish with additional fresh rosemary sprigs and orange slices in punch bowl.  Makes 8 cups.

Try it if you dare!  : )  Happy Thanksgiving! xo Dawn

Buffalo Check meets the Stamparatus

“A seed hidden in the heart of an apple is an orchard invisible.”

~Welsh Proverb

Good Morning!  Have you seen the new Buffalo Check Background Stamp in the new Occasions Catalog?  It is so much fun!!!  I used it to make this banner as decor for my upcoming stamping classes.  My husband didn’t quite get why I was so excited to get this stamp, but I just love buffalo plaid!

I’ve been playing with the Picked for You apple stamp set for weeks now, it’s one of my all-time favorite sets.  It takes some practice, but it is so versatile.  I’ve made all kinds of cards with it, treats, door prizes, this banner….I’ll be able to show you more next week after stamping classes!  Peace! Dawn xo
